LACOSTE is charming Luberon village, built on a green hill above a vast plain. You can see Bonnieux village on opposite hill. The famous castle belonging to the Marquis de Sade is situated at Lacoste. In 1771 the Marquis fled from Paris to escape the scandals created by his erotic writing and outlandish behaviour (too liberal for the era). This huge 11th century castle, partly in ruins, domine le village et les vestiges des remparts.
